Liverpool laid down a marker at Stamford bridge on Saturday by beating Chelsea 3-1. Klopp’s much coveted victory cannot come at a better time as this will provide the much needed boost to the team.
SIMON MIGNOLET: 6.5
Couldn’t do much for Ramires opener with the Brazilian able to position his header after poor marking from Moreno
Relatively solid thereafter, made a great save for Oscar’s cheeky effort.
NATHANIEL CLYNE: 7
He was involved in all the good things that happened on the right side of the field. Always on the front foot marauding Chelsea’s back line with his powerful runs and solid and composed at the back.
MARTIN SKRTEL: 7.5
He dealt with the threat of costa quite well and imposed himself on the game with his calming influence and powerful headers. Did well to control his emotions after tangling with costa.
MAMADOU SAKHO: 7.5
Like his partner he also fared well against Chelsea’s ineffective attackers. Another cool and composed performance from the robust defender makes him the first to be selected by Klopp. His incisive forward passing allowed Coutinho to score.
ALBERTO MORENO: 6.5
At fault for Chelsea’s goal after letting Ramires run without tracking him.
He still needs work on his defending. But as the game went on, he grew in confidence and put dangerous balls into the box. He also came close to scoring himself with Begovic making a crucial touch for Chelsea.
JAMES MILNER: 5
He is sort of looking out since the past few weeks after another forgettable performance from the stand in captain. Substituted after 60 minutes of misjudged tackles, passes and his overall gameplay, and rightly so; A huge concern for Klopp.
LUCAS LEIVA: 7
Another stellar defensive performance, making that important last ditch challenge. Continuing to look the most revitalized player since Klopp’s appointment. Some may argue that he should have been sent off, but that’s Football and you have to live with it.
EMRE CAN: 6
It was a hit and miss game for can. The fact that he is just 21 was evident in the game. He contributed to some strong runs and tried to impose himself in the game but was so often was caught out of position and lost possession. He has all the tools to be world class, but needs to work more consistently
ADAM LALLANA: 6.5
Started the first half by brightly taking up dangerous positions and also testing Begovic but faded eventually as has been the case in the majority of his Liverpool career. Did well in his dummy for benteke’s goal
ROBERTO FIRMINO: 7
Firmino started as a center forward and did quite well. He constantly found space between the lines and his build up play was also impressive. After the introduction of Benteke he moved up to his natural no.10 role and continued to impress. Has to be a starter now
PHILIPPE COUTINHO: 8(MAN OF THE MATCH)
After a series of poor performances Coutinho has ended his rot with a splendid performance. Ineffective for the first 45 mins, but after a superb curling finish his confidence grew. He was intelligent, creative and incisive as the reds continued to expose Chelsea’s poor backline
CHRISTIAN BENTEKE(7.5): A goal and an assist in 30 minutes. Benteke made his contribution count.
JORDON IBE – N/A
JURGEN KLOPP: 8
Benteke in for Milner. Would Brendan have the balls to replace his captain for a center forward? It was a bold move by Klopp and it truly paid off. He is showing his influence with stong management and decision making.
