The matches lack lustre and perhaps that is why the fans are bored to the extent that for the first time in a long time, Old Trafford was empty. This is not what this club is about. I guess its safe to say that Louis Van Gaal’s philosophy has ruined the club and while they are winning, its just not fun anymore.
Manchester United seemed just fine, balanced rather, with the good and the bad. De Gea wasn’t called into action a lot, in fact, the ball boys held the ball more than the goalie, which isn’t all that bad to be frank. Defensively, United were very strong with Smalling suppressing any attacks by Adebayor, who was perhaps the only Palace player in their half for the majority of the match and Blind did well to read the game and move forward with the ball. The fall backs, Darmian and Valencia, did very well as Darmian assisted the own goal by Delaney and later scored his first goal for the club in an impressive fashion, Valencia also looked very strong moving forward and seems to have made a good comeback along with the captain, Wayne Rooney, who looked fantastic with perfectly placed balls and great touches, he does indeed seems to bind the team together.
Schneiderlin seemed to pull off a nice job rotating up and down the field and keeping it all under control.
As far as palace are concerned, half of their players were invisible after the first 20 minutes, Delaney’s own goal had a very bad impact on the team and they just fell apart. Palace need to come back against Watford in the FA cup on Sunday with a boost of confidence or they might find themselves fighting a relegation battle very soon. Adebayor was not the striker they were searching for as a replacement for Bolasie, Wilfred Zaha, however was a little confident moving forward but thanks to the combined effort of the United defense and the poor morale of his team, he seemed to take a step back as well. Their star player for the match has to be Julian Speroni, who pulled off some good saves in the first half, however, made a few mistakes as well and Darmian’s goal was a punishment for that (won’t blame him though, starting a game for the first time in almost a year has its effects on you). To conclude, Palace do need to pull their socks up and an FA Cup semi final win against Watford would just do the trick.
Depending upon the game at the Emirates Stadium today, Manchester United might just be at the penultimate stage of getting into the top 4, they must, however, do it well, games like this ruin the spirit, being fixed to one “philosophy” is boring and to quote The Joker, “let’s introduce a little chaos”
