Arsenal’s new signing, Granit Xhaka took to Facebook after a sad exit from the Euro 2016.
His team, Switzerland, played Poland in the first match of the Round of 16 of the tournament, and were behind after 39 minutes, however Xherdan Shaqiri scored a goal of the tournament contender to keep things going till a penalty shoot out, which Switzerland lost (5-4) after Xhaka sent his shot wide of the post.
We and, above all, I, too, are after this game just disappointed. We were especially in the second half and in the extension of the better team, deserved it, had to win. The more it makes me sad that I have forgiven decisive penalty – I’m sorry for my teammates, the fans, cheerers for Switzerland. Anyone who knows me knows that I would give anything, to come back stronger! Your Granite
It is indeed sad to see a team with so much potential and talent go home, but a lot of opportunities lie ahead for Switzerland and especially for Xhaka, who probably makes his Premier League debut for Arsenal in just 49 days against Liverpool. It would also be interesting to see how the winners, Poland and Portugal match up for the first match of the quarter finals.
Finally, the hosts, France play Ireland as Germany take on Slovakia and Hungary take on Belgium in the second day of the Round of 16 today, which should make for another great day in Football.
